A series of events held across Southern California’s desert region will greet the anniversary of the Sand to Snow, Mojave Trails and Castle Mountains National Monument designations.

Celebrations will highlight the importance of these newly protected lands to a wide spectrum of local residents, business owners and visitors. Scheduled anniversary events include service projects, hikes, open houses and opportunities to learn about desert history.

Mojave Desert Land Trust, The Wildlands Conservancy, Friends of Big Morongo Canyon Preserve and others will sponsor celebrations from February through April. The desert monuments permanently protect some of the most spectacular wild lands and critical plant and animal habitat in the country, including Joshua Tree National Park, Death Valley National Park and the Mojave Preserve.

Chambers and business owners are also encouraged to learn more about how the monuments can benefit their communities and local economies with the Monuments Toolkit at www.MojaveMonuments.org.
